weight loss

I read an article in the July issue of Massage magazine titled “Your Healthy Body”, they cited research by the University of Illinois that was published in Obesity Reviews. According to the article, restricting calories 15 to 60 percent a day or every other day is effective in burning body fat.

This article also states that metabolism is increased for as long as 48 hours after exercise. In other words, to boost metabolism eat less and exercise. The difference is a person can eat normal one day then cut back the next and still lose weight.

It might be an easier way of losing weight for some rather being on a strict diet every day. However, dieting doesn’t work changing eating habits is what is needed. I wonder if restricting calories every other day would hinder getting into good eating habits?

Soul

I got this quote from an e-mail. I wonder how many people agree with it? I also wonder how many people even gave any though?

C.S. Lewis, "You don't have a soul. You are a soul;
you have a body."

What is wellness

I want to share my thoughts and goals on wellness with others. Wellness is one of those trendy terms that can mean almost anything to anybody. To me it is taking care of the whole person. It is probably the one thing that most people, including myself, are not good at.  Maintaining good health can be hard, not to mention some people seem to make it complicated and not much fun. Like most people, I tend to lose interest in things that I don’t enjoy. So through this blog I am going to share what I am learning and practicing on, which is wellness.

Before I start let’s get a good definition on what the areas of wellness are. No doubt diet is one of the most important. It is true “You are what you eat” how much and what you eat not to mention why you eat. Believe me; people eat for more reasons than being hungry. Exercise is important, too. My question about exercises, does it have to be torture? When children go out to play, they are running, jumping, and having a good time. You don’t see children swimming laps at a pool. When they run they are happy. When adults run they do not look that happy. My thought on the matter is how long does a person do something that they don't like doing? The last thing that is taking care of mental and spiritual health. Let’s face it, people are stress out. Days are spent on going to one task to another, not taking time to rest, or to recharge, and enjoy life. Thinking about what is really important to our own needs.

It is a lot to take care of but it is important. Because if a person does not take care of them selves and they get ill, they won’t be able to take care of others.

What type of business would you have

If you owned a business what would it be like? Who would you cater to? Would you run it to get as much money as you can in as short of a period of time as possible? There is a lot to consider when owning a business. And it is hard to define.

I am a massage therapist; I have been in business for over two years. And when the question is asked, "what makes you stand out from all the others?" I got stuck.  I think that massage therapist all want their clients to feel better. We all must like people because we spend an hour with them.

So as I compared myself to other therapist I really didn't see anything that is outstanding. Instead of comparing myself to others I should of look at what I'm offering to the public.

So what do I offer? First of all a darn good massage, second when a client comes in for a one hour massage they get an hour massage. I know of a lot of places that an hour massage is only 45 minutes. I think for what massage cost a person should get every minute they can out of a massage.  I know why places do it. Changing the table and doing an intake, to find out what is the matter with the client and talking to the client after the massage takes time. Time is money as the saying goes. Cram that all in an hour a place can get one or two more massages in a day. Like I said people should get their hour worth out of a massage.

I work with my clients. I am very flexible and I try to listen to them. What I’m talking about is their schedules and what they can afford. If I put their needs first, with in reason, I think that would be the best way to help.
It is important to listen to what people have to say what they like and don’t like. My clients opinions matters to me. If it is within reason I will try to accommodate them.
Finely, I just want people to leave my practice feeling that they had a good experience. That way I hope that they will come back.
So that is what my wow factor is. I don’t know if that is common in my line of work or not but it is decent. And my hope is that if I work on it I will get loyal clients.
